Waymo hires former Tesla Executive
Waymo recently hired former Tesla executive Danial Ho as a “Program Director.”
According to Ho’s LinkedIn, he has been working at Waymo for two months. The former Tesla executive’s LinkedIn account does not provide details about his role as “Program Director” at Waymo. However, his role at Tesla might give some clues.
Ho’s worked at Tesla for 10 years, wearing multiple hats. His last three roles at Tesla were “Tesla Model 3 Program Manager,” “Model 3 and Model Y Program Manager,“ and “Director, Vehicle Programs and New Product Introduction.“
Based on his last roles at Tesla, Ho may be involved in launching Waymo’s upcoming service or products. Last week, Waymo announced a partnership with Hyundai Motor Company. Through the collaboration, Waymo will integrate its autonomous tech, the Waymo Driver, into Hyundai’s all-electric IONIQ 5 EV.
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 EV will be part of the Waymo One fleet.
“We are thrilled to partner with Hyundai as we further our mission to be the world’s most trusted driver,“ said Tekedra Mawakana, co-CEO of Waymo. “Hyundai’s focus on sustainability and strong electric vehicle roadmap makes them a great partner for us as we bring our fully autonomous service to more riders in more places.”
Tesla’s Robotaxi fleet will likely compete with the Waymo One fleet. Tesla will unveil its robotaxi vehicle, the Cybercab, on October 10, 2024.
