Tesla quietly removes some of its old Master Plans from its blog page
Tesla has quietly removed two Master Plan write-ups from its website, and while it’s not entirely clear why, the move comes just as the company’s blog page gets a redesign.
Earlier this week, multiple parties spotted that Tesla’s blog posts before 2019 were no longer showing up on the company’s blog page, including its first and second Master Plan posts. The plans were all penned by CEO Elon Musk, and while the first two are now gone, the third can still be seen on Tesla’s website here.
The first Master Plan effectively detailed four steps to advance sustainability, starting with building a high-priced, low-volume car (Roadster), then using the profits from that to make increasingly affordable vehicles (Model S/X, then Model 3/Y), eventually shifting to also provide renewable energy products. Musk put it like this when he wrote the first of these plans in 2006:
- Build sports car
- Use that money to build an affordable car
- Use that money to build an even more affordable car
- While doing above, also provide zero emission electric power generation options
The second Master Plan picked up on these initial plans, which were written a decade earlier, additionally detailing plans to focus on grid-scale battery storage, Full Self-Driving, and continued expansion of its vehicle lineup along with making peoples’ vehicles make money for them. The company summarizes Part 2 below:
- Create stunning solar roofs with seamlessly integrated battery storage
- Expand the electric vehicle product line to address all major segments
- Develop a self-driving capability that is 10X safer than manual via massive fleet learning
- Enable your car to make money for you when you aren’t using it
To be sure, the earliest post on the blog page is now the first update from 2019, and it’s possible that the exclusion of the Master Plans was not intentional, or was otherwise a fluke related to the company redesigning and updating its blog page. It’s also worth noting that Tesla still details some of its goals as a company on its About page, including its overall mission of “Accelerating the World’s Transition to Sustainable Energy.”

Elon Musk also teased plans to release Master Plan part four in June, saying he was actively working on it, and adding that it would be “epic.” Tesla’s fourth Master Plan is widely expected to be regarding AI in general and FSD, potentially picking up on robotaxi and Optimus plans.
